This is what Carlos Esquivel, Shop Supervisor, says makes him special. While all true and admirable, there is so much more that sets him apart. In an industry where finding skilled and dedicated trade workers seems to become more difficult by the day, we count ourselves incredibly lucky to have Carlos as part of our skilled labor team.
Carlos immigrated to the United States from Mexico many years ago. He came in search of opportunity to provide for his family, including his wife and four children. He persevered through the many challenges that come with living in a new country as he forged a path toward a future he could be proud of.
Fast forward to today, that path has been fruitful. Carlos has since celebrated 32 years of marriage, has seen the growth of his family, which now includes four grandchildren, and has been with MMI for 20 years where he started as a helper in the fabrication shop. Still, Carlos envisioned more himself. He eventually decided to pursue his welding certification and become a welder and fitter. Over the years he worked his way through the ranks despite his own personal challenges, one of which was a language barrier. Though Carlos can understand and speak some English, his native and primary language is Spanish. What could easily be perceived as a barrier is instead something of an asset. Because of his language, Carlos connects easily with other Spanish-speaking shop employees. He leads, teaches, and helps them grow in their various positions. He helps them understand and embrace our company’s 4H Core Values, just as he has. Carlos is the embodiment of HAPPY, HUNGRY, HARDWORKING and HONORABLE and demonstrates it through daily interactions with his staff. His commitment to them is unfailing. He sees in them what he saw in himself many years ago and is committed to nurturing their skills and confidence.

We never take our employees for granted, as we believe they truly are our greatest asset. This is particularly true when it comes to long-term employees like Carlos.
