For Accounting Manager Deanna Flores, it is a philosophy that resonates deeply. Deanna joined MMI five and a half months ago and currently leads a dedicated team of four in the accounting department. Her passion for her role is fueled by her enthusiasm for continuous learning.
Deanna acknowledges that in the world of accounting, there is no room for shortcuts. Her belief is that adhering to the principles of honor and integrity is not only the right thing to do but also the key to long-term success. In her words, "You know that old adage 'it's never wrong to do the right thing'? Well, it's entirely true. I think you can climb high when you strive to be HONORABLE. Sometimes it's hard to do the right thing. Sure, taking a shortcut can solve an immediate problem, but in accounting, there are no shortcuts. It all comes out in the wash eventually. Doing my job, the HONORABLE way has long-term benefits."
Deanna's thoughts on our core value of being HONORABLE are well articulated in her recent share for our newsletter, where she shares a personal story that emphasizes the importance of honor. She recalled a time when she worked at a bank, and an ATM malfunctioned, ejecting $200 onto the ground in the drive thru. It was an unexpected windfall that would have tempted most people to keep the money. However, the young man who found the cash chose to do the HONORABLE thing and returned it. When Deanna asked if he had considered keeping it, he simply replied, "Karma!" For him, it seemed to be a matter of ethics or maybe the belief that what goes around comes around. Perhaps it was his upbringing and a well-developed moral compass. Regardless, his actions were indeed HONORABLE.
