You may have seen it – the massive construction site in North Phoenix, near Interstate-17 and the Loop 303, just west of Dove Valley Road. The sprawling project, with a multitude of towering cranes, will be home to Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company Limited (TSMC), a Taiwan-based company. Established in 1987, TSMC serves an impressive client base of over 530 customers including Apple, Tesla, and Qualcomm.
In 2020, TSMC announced the purchase of a 1129-acre parcel in the Phoenix Metro Area. They broke ground in June of 2021 with MMI Industrial and Steel being part of the massive project since the beginning. MMI was awarded their first contract through Marketech International Corp in September 2021. MMI’s scope of work has been broad, ranging from construction of stairs and ladders, equipment securing and anchoring to foundation installations, miscellaneous fabrication for clean room waffle slab protection, and crane fabrication and erection.
The TSMC project has been a key factor in MMI’s growth over the past two years. According to Dusty Pinckard, President & CEO, this multi-billion-dollar, multi-year project is just what MMI needs to reach the company’s growth goals. MMI currently employs a staff of 7-8 managers and 50 field workers dedicated to the TSMC project. Combined with numerous subcontractors, the total number of MMI workers is just over 100 at any given time. Key customer and vendor partners that have contributed to MMI’s success on the TSMC project include, but are not limited to, Southwest Fastener, Interra, Copper State Nut and Bolt, Degan Construction, JD Howard Steel Erectors, Inc., AZ Iron Works, Standard Coating Co., LLC and AZZ galvanizing.
